Kula Lunge Instructions
The Kula Lunge helps balance the horse and encourages it to work in self carriage without the influence of a rider on it's back so it can develop it's carrying capacity.
To have more control over the horse falling in or out on the circle bring the outside lunge line over the horses back to ensure the circles are the same size in both directions
Kula Lunge Long Reining
Long reining gives you more control over your horse because you can use the outside rein to stop the horse making the circle smaller, turn in on you or fall-out of the outside shoulder. You can easily move the horse around the arena and change direction without having to stop and turn the horse and adjust the lunge lines.
Kula Lunge In Hand Work
In Hand Work - I like to work the horses in hand after training in the Kula Lunge to assess how well they are following my body language especially after I take the lead off and yes I have done the walk of shame more than once. But they need to be allowed to make the mistake so we can correct the mistake and they learn.
Moving Off Pressure - Training your horse to move off pressure from the ground helps to develop their balance and straightness under saddle.
Kula Lunge Trot & Canter Poles
Trot & canter poles teach the horse to place their feet and is good preparation for jumping.
They also help to encourage the horse to bend their hocks & lift their back and thoracic sling.
I like to start my horses off over the poles firstly in the Kula Lunge so they are working in self carriage without the influence of a rider on their back. I then progress this training into their under saddle work.
Training The Kids Pony

When your child's pony needs some extra training and it's too small to ride, incorporate the Kula Lunge extra small into your kids ponies training program. You can train the pony on the long reins from the ground and get it working on a contact in a relaxed balanced frame ensuring it is responsive to your aids so the pony is then easier for your child to ride.
Focussing on ensuring that the pony is responsive to your commands it will then be easier for your child to get it to steer, stop & go. This method not only enhances the lines of communication between you and the pony so you can still maintain some control while your child is riding the pony.
